Once upon a time, there lived a seven-year-old girl named Reya. She was a joyful and happy child, always immersed in her own colorful world. With her trusty set of colored pencils and papers, she would bring her vibrant imagination to life through her sketches. Reya's creativity knew no bounds, as she would even sew dresses for her beloved pet dog and her cherished dolls using her old clothes. Her inquisitive nature earned her the nickname "question bank" among her parents and grandparents. Every morning, Reya would wake up early to accompany her father on their daily walk, bombarding him with all sorts of questions, even though he wasn't allowed to answer any.
Meanwhile, Sunil and Sunitha had been married for quite some time. Their lives had fallen into a monotonous routine of home-to-office commutes, leaving little time for socializing and enjoying life. Responsibilities and financial obligations consumed their days, leaving no room for outings with friends or parties. Weekends became dedicated to catching up on pending household chores and, if lucky, a family dinner. Sunitha, like any other working woman, had to juggle her office work along with the demands of running a household. The pressure of living in a joint family was also taking its toll on her. She had worked tirelessly to earn a promotion, only to be denied for unknown reasons. To make matters worse, she was put on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP). It was widely known that her boss had shown favoritism towards a certain subordinate, which left Sunitha feeling disheartened and defeated.
Sunitha's unhappiness began to seep into every aspect of her life. She had lost interest in her daily activities and found herself sinking into a deep depression. Despite wearing a constant smile, she was crumbling on the inside, struggling to meet the expectations placed upon her. The concept of smiling depression masked her true emotions, as nobody could detect the pain she was silently enduring.
In a desperate attempt to break free from her mundane and boring life, Sunitha found solace in spending copious amounts of time on social media. She started reconnecting with friends and colleagues, finding a sense of validation through the appreciation she received for her beautiful selfies. The online world became her refuge, and she reveled in the attention it brought her. Over time, her social media presence became a regular trend, with posts solely dedicated to herself. Not a single picture of her family, relatives, or even her own child, Reya, ever graced her social media accounts.
Little did Sunitha realize that her growing connection with Ramesh, a management trainee in her company, was gradually turning into something more than just casual interaction. What started as simple comments on status updates and pictures soon evolved into a mutual admiration club, with personal chats becoming a regular occurrence. Both Sunitha and Ramesh were oblivious to the consequences their relationship would ultimately have. For Ramesh, it was merely a way to pass the time, while Sunitha found herself trapped in a confusing web. She couldn't focus on her personal life, often clashing with her husband, Sunil. Their discussions escalated into heated arguments and venting of pent-up anger, leading Sunitha to make the life-altering decision of separation.
Without consulting Sunil or discussing her intentions with him, Sunitha secretly approached a lawyer to prepare the separation papers. When the draft was presented to Sunil, he was left speechless, and her in-laws were in utter shock. Reya, the innocent seven-year-old, couldn't comprehend what was happening around her. Sunitha informed everyone that she didn't want any alimony and that Sunil could take care of Reya. Her parents, who lived nearby, tried to reason with her, but she remained stubborn in her decision. Sunitha's hurtful words, "Until I followed your orders, I was nice, but the day I wanted something for myself, I became a devil," deeply wounded her parents, who never expected such an absurd reaction from their daughter.
Curiosity and concern filled the hearts of those who knew Sunitha, desperate to understand the reasons behind her drastic decision. However, she kept her reasons tightly guarded, refusing to share her inner turmoil. She moved out of her family home and became emotionally detached, even avoiding visiting Reya on weekends. Sunil made multiple attempts to meet and convince her, but she remained resolute in her decision to cut off all contact. Unbeknownst to Sunitha, Ramesh was oblivious to the turmoil in her life. He was shocked when he finally learned about the separation and desired to understand the reasons behind it all. Sunitha explained that her decision had little to do with him and more to do with her long-standing unhappiness in the marriage. She admitted to never truly loving Sunil and feeling bound by societal norms. Marriage had become a suffocating force that prevented her from pursuing her dreams and personal freedom. Ramesh had unwittingly given her the wings to escape her oppressive relationship, and she found solace in their conversations. He had made her feel special, and she saw him as an inspiration for breaking free.
Ramesh, on the other hand, retorted with remorse, realizing the extent of his actions. He confessed that his admiration for Sunitha had clouded his judgment and that he had only intended to have a fleeting affair, at most. He expressed his guilt and fear that his own wife would follow a similar path of betrayal. Sunitha's separation had left an indelible mark on him, and he doubted if he could ever fully trust his wife again. The consequences of his actions weighed heavily on his conscience as he uttered, "I am not sure if I will ever get over it." Deeply troubled, he walked away, leaving Sunitha to deal with the aftermath of their ill-fated connection.
Sunitha found herself in a state of utter distress, unable to move from the couch in her small service apartment. Suddenly, Reya burst into the room and embraced her tightly. Sunitha's face lit up with both joy and surprise as she saw her daughter standing there alone. Confused, she asked Reya how she had come to the apartment and who had brought her. Instead of answering, Reya replied with a question of her own, "Why aren't you coming home? We all miss you so much. Dad has been sad ever since you left. He doesn't even take me out for walks anymore."
Overwhelmed with emotion, Sunitha embraced Reya, tears streaming down her face. As they hugged and exchanged kisses, Sunitha broke down completely. Reya, sensing her mother's pain, shared that Sunil was waiting outside in the car. He had sent Reya up to meet Sunitha while he attended to a phone call. Sunitha clung to Reya's hand, and together they walked to the car. Sunitha locked eyes with Sunil and asked, "Why didn't you come inside?" Stepping out of the vehicle, Sunil replied with a heavy heart, "You didn't want to meet me, and I didn't want to hurt you. So, I stayed back." Sunitha, overwhelmed by her emotions, collapsed on the ground.
Sunil immediately lifted her and rushed her to the nearest hospital, confusion and worry etched on his face. The doctors conducted a thorough examination and, finding her vital signs to be stable, suggested that she seek help from the lifestyle department to address any underlying stress. When Sunitha finally regained consciousness, she found Sunil sitting by her side, his face etched with concern. She gripped his hand tightly and confessed about her involvement with Ramesh. Sunitha revealed that she had been consumed by guilt and overwhelmed by work pressure, which had pushed her to the edge. She expressed doubts about returning home, believing that it was too late to salvage their relationship.
At that moment, the doctor summoned Sunil and requested payment for the hospital bills before they could be discharged. Sunil settled the bill and returned to Sunitha's side. He gazed deeply into her eyes and uttered words filled with love and determination, "Your home is waiting for you. Come, let's go back and fall in love all over again."
Sunitha's heart wavered as she looked into the eyes of the man she had once loved. She pondered his words, feeling a glimmer of hope reignite within her. With a mix of hesitation and longing, she slowly nodded her head. Hand in hand, they left the hospital, ready to rebuild their shattered marriage and rediscover the love that had once bound them together. The journey ahead would not be easy, but with patience, understanding, and a renewed commitment to each other, they hoped to heal the wounds and find happiness once more.
