Appraisal Awakening: The Hilarious Truth Behind the Raise

The story "Appraisal Awakening: The Hilarious Truth Behind the Raise" is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental. The opinions and statements made by the vendors in the story do not reflect the views of any real-life individuals or entities. This story is intended to be humorous and should not be taken seriously.

Once upon a time, there was a clueless HR manager named John, who thought he was the employee of the year. He was so confident that he would get a massive raise that he even started planning his extravagant vacation.

But when John received his appraisal, he looked like he had seen a ghost. The raise was only 8%, and he was not pleased. He stormed into his boss's office, yelling and screaming about how he deserved more.

John's boss, who was a genius, came up with an ingenious plan to get unbiased feedback about John's performance. He decided to ask all the vendors who had worked with John to give their anonymous feedback.

John was ecstatic about the idea, thinking he had built a great rapport with all the vendors. But little did he know that the feedback he was about to receive would be more damaging than a hurricane.

The vendors had a field day sharing their experiences working with John.

Well, well, well, look who we have here! It's Mr. "I'm-Too-Cool-to-Respond-to-Your-Messages" John!

I mean, seriously, this guy is online on social media 24/7, but when it comes to responding to our messages, it's a big fat "Naa". Does he think he's too good for us? Is he too busy being a social media superstar to give us the time of day?

Maybe he's too busy taking selfies and posting memes to care about the real world. Or maybe he's just too lazy to type out a simple response. Either way, it's hilarious how he thinks he can just ignore us and get away with it.

John was more elusive than Bigfoot, and they had better luck getting a response from a wall. One vendor even joked that John's favourite pastime was playing hide and seek with his phone.

Oh, John. Bless his heart, but he's not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed, is he?

According to the vendors, John has some pretty wild ideas. I mean, who in their right mind would ask for a swimming pool in the middle of a desert? Is he trying to create an oasis or something?

I can just picture the vendors scratching their heads in confusion, wondering if John had lost his marbles. I mean, sure, it would be nice to have a refreshing dip in the pool, but in the middle of a desert? That's just plain crazy!

But hey, maybe John has some secret plan to bring in truckloads of water to fill the pool, or maybe he's just dreaming of a tropical paradise in the middle of the sand dunes. Who knows? All we can do is sit back, relax, and watch as John's crazy ideas continue to baffle and entertain us.

Ah, John, the master of the art of delayed payments and partial payments. I mean, who needs to pay vendors on time and in full when you can keep them waiting for months on end and leave them feeling like they're running a charity?

The poor vendors must be wondering if they accidentally stumbled into a volunteer program instead of a business deal. I can just imagine them huddled together, wondering how they can keep their businesses afloat when John is holding onto their hard-earned cash like it's his own personal piggy bank.

Maybe John thinks he's doing them a favor by keeping their money safe for them, or maybe he's just forgotten that he owes them anything at all.

But hey, who needs money when you have the satisfaction of knowing that you're the king of delayed payments? I'm sure John is sleeping soundly at night, dreaming of all the ways he can keep his vendors waiting even longer and helping company to save on some interest.

Oh John, John, John. Not only is he a master of delayed payments, crazy ideas, and unresponsiveness, but it seems like he's also a communication disaster.

I mean, calling a vendor by the wrong name? That's a classic John move. I bet the poor vendor was wondering if they had entered an alternate reality where they had a different name.

And let's not forget about the singing telegram. Who does that? I can just picture the vendors staring at each other in confusion, wondering if they had accidentally stumbled into a Broadway musical.

It's no wonder the vendors thought John had lost his marbles. I mean, between the crazy ideas, delayed payments, and bizarre communication tactics, it's a wonder they stuck around at all.

But hey, at least John kept things interesting, right? I'm sure the vendors have plenty of stories to tell about their interactions with him. Who knows, maybe one day they'll even write a book about their experiences with the one and only John, the communication disaster.

Oh, John. Just when we thought his crazy ideas couldn't get any crazier, he goes and asks a vendor to paint a skyscraper with a toothbrush.

I mean, who needs a paint roller or a paint sprayer when you have a trusty toothbrush, right? I can just picture the vendor staring at John in disbelief, wondering if he had been hit in the head with a hammer.

Maybe John thinks toothbrushes are the latest and greatest innovation in the world of painting, or maybe he just likes to see people suffer.

I can imagine the vendor going back to their office and telling all their colleagues about the crazy request they just received. "Hey guys, guess what John asked me to do today? Paint a skyscraper with a toothbrush! Can you believe it?"

But hey, I'm sure the vendors never have a dull day when they're working with him. Who knows what crazy request he'll come up with next!

It seems like John is up to his old tricks again. This time, he's changing the goalpost without even bothering to inform the poor vendors.

I can just imagine the vendors scratching their heads and wondering if they accidentally stumbled into a game of football. "Wait, what do you mean you moved the goalpost? Is this some kind of new strategy we don't know about?"

Who needs clear communication and transparency when you can just surprise people with new rules and expectations?

I'm sure the vendors are having a grand old time trying to keep up with John's ever-changing whims. Maybe they'll start taking bets on what new surprise he'll spring on them next. "I bet he'll ask us to paint a skyscraper with a fork next. Anyone wanna take that bet?"

The vendors even revealed that John was not always honest in his dealings with them. He made big promises but never delivered, like promising front-row seats at a concert and leaving them stuck in the back row. One vendor even said that John tried to barter for their services with a box of old sneakers, which left them laughing so hard they had tears in their eyes.

Oh boy, John really dropped the ball on this one! He couldn't even muster up the energy to write a simple thank you note to his vendor, despite the fact that they did more than half of the recruitment for him. It's like he's allergic to showing gratitude!

And if that wasn't bad enough, John's team members are dropping like flies, and he's not even bothering to properly hand over their work to their replacements. It's like he's trying to create chaos in the workplace!

Oh John, poor John. It seems like he had a nightmare about not getting that much-needed appraisal from his boss.

I can just picture him waking up in a cold sweat, wondering if it was all just a bad dream. But alas, the reality sets in and he realizes he really does have a lot of work to do if he ever wants to make it to the top.

Maybe he'll start by actually paying his vendors on time and with the full amount owed. Or perhaps he'll learn how to communicate properly and avoid sending any more singing telegrams.

But who knows, maybe John is just destined to be the lovable underdog of the office. I can just imagine his co-workers patting him on the back and telling him, "Don't worry John, we still love you even if you can't paint a skyscraper with a toothbrush."

Either way, we'll be rooting for you, John! Just remember to never give up on your dreams (even if they involve toothbrushes and singing telegrams).

Why I Would Tell You Not to Buy a Holiday Home in Wayanad

Let me start with something that may sound strange coming from me. I live in Wayanad. I am building businesses here. I am involved in hospitality. I am working on holiday homes and nature based living. And still, if someone calls me and says, "Anup, I am thinking of buying a piece of land in Wayanad and building a homestay. What do you think?"   My first answer today is not, "Yes, go ahead." My first answer is, "Wait." Spend some time here. Understand Wayanad. Then decide. Because I have slowly realised that many people are not really investing in Wayanad. They are investing in a picture they have created in their minds about Wayanad. They see a beautiful piece of land. A mountain view. A stream running beside it. A lake somewhere nearby. Trees everywhere. Maybe the forest is just a few hundred metres away. The broker says, "Sir, this area is going to develop." The price still looks reasonable....

We Forgot Us

Srinivas was in his late fifties and, by every conventional definition, he was a successful man. He had spent most of his working life in one of the biggest corporate companies in Bengaluru. Good position, good salary, good house, good savings and a life that most people would look at and say, "What more do you want?" Saritha was working too. She was about six years younger than him, ambitious, independent and still very serious about her career. Their two children were doing well. One was working in the USA and the other was studying there.   From outside, the Srinivas family looked like one of those families who had got everything right.   Inside, something had slowly gone missing.   Their mornings were almost mechanical. They would wake up, go for their walk, come back, get ready and leave for work. Their offices were in different directions and the Bengaluru traffic made even a normal journey feel like a punishment. It was not that their offices were ver...

No Audience, Still Acting

I was having my tea the other morning, sitting on one of the small shacks near my construction site. A teenage girl walked past and waited at the bus stop across the road. It was clear something was special for her that day. Maybe her birthday, maybe an event in school. She kept adjusting her hair and her dress, and from the corner of her eye she checked if anyone was noticing her. That small moment pulled me into a long thought. Who are we when nobody is watching? I realised how often we live our life like someone is always looking at us. As if there is a stage, lights, and a crowd waiting to judge our next move. I lived that way too. Every smile measured, every word chosen, every silence planned. I knew how to act in rooms, how to fit in, how to be liked. What I did not see then was how temporary habits become permanent masks. Slowly the mask sticks so tight that one day you forget how your real face even looks. The mask was supposed to be something I take off when I feel safe. But a...
