The Great Bark-in

Once upon a time, in a whimsical land where the air was filled with woofs, wagging tails, and an abundance of fabulous fur, there lived three extraordinary Lhasa Apso dogs named Max, Moose, and Masha. These majestic pups were the epitome of pawsomeness, strutting around with the utmost grace and flair, as if they were the supermodels of the canine world.

Now, despite their charming appearances and undeniable charm, our beloved Lhasa Apsos had a teeny-tiny, itty-bitty issue. An issue that would make even the bravest squirrel tremble with fear. Yes, my dear friend, they harbored an outrageous and completely irrational loathing for anything that dared venture near their hallowed abode—be it a feathered friend, a furry foe, or even a pesky insect with the audacity to buzz within earshot.

Picture this: Max, with his luscious mane and piercing eyes, would transform into a four-legged commander, barking orders with an air of grandeur. Moose, the fluffiest of the trio, would puff up his coat to the size of a sheepdog, ready to strike fear into the hearts of all creatures great and small. And Masha, the smallest but feistiest of the bunch, would prance around like a fierce lioness, her yips and growls echoing through the neighborhood.

These three adorable creatures were the epitome of eccentricity in the animal kingdom. Moose, the sporting maestro, had a talent that would make Olympians jealous. With a speed matching that of a bolt of lightning, he would dive headfirst into action whenever he spotted a rat or a slithering snake. Those poor unsuspecting critters never stood a chance! Moose's home was a fortress, guarded by his relentless pursuit of pests.

Now, Masha was a daredevil of epic proportions. She possessed a superpower that defied all laws of gravity. Picture this: Masha, a petite feline, leaping higher than a grown man, defying all logical explanations. And what did she do while soaring through the air? She planted kisses on unsuspecting cheeks! Can you imagine the astonishment on the faces of those lucky recipients? Masha's high-flying shenanigans left everyone in awe, and she became the star of every gathering.

Ah, Max, the king of mealtimes! His love for food was unparalleled, and any interruption during his royal feasts was met with a fury fit for a monarch. No disturbances were allowed when Max indulged in his culinary delights. He would glare at anyone who dared to come between him and his gastronomic pleasures, making it clear that he was not to be disturbed during his regal dining sessions. Max's food obsession reached comical heights, and his table manners were something to behold!

When these three furry friends went for their walks, they transformed into a triumphant trio of superiority. With their heads held high and tails wagging proudly, they paraded around, making sure to look down on other dogs with an air of unmatched grandeur. It was as if they were saying, "Behold, mere mortals, for we are the epitome of coolness and magnificence!"

So there you have it—Moose, the pest-chasing speed demon, Masha, the gravity-defying smoocher, and Max, the reigning king of mealtimes.

Now, Moose, bless his sensitive soul, had a peculiar aversion to loud noises that could rival even the most skittish squirrel. Whenever crackers burst or balloons popped, his canine senses would go into overdrive, and fear would grip him like a squirrel clinging to an acorn. This would set off a comical chain of events – Moose would unleash a cacophony of barks that could wake up the entire neighborhood, or he would transform into a furry lightning bolt, attempting daring escapes that made Houdini look like a novice magician. Needless to say, his escapades had earned him the legendary title of the "Escape Artist" among his four-legged comrades.

Meanwhile, Max, with his quivering paws and a heart as delicate as a butterfly's wings, had a different strategy to tackle the dreaded noises. Instead of facing them head-on, he would transform into a trembling mass of fur and seek refuge in the most unimaginable hiding spots. From the depths of the laundry basket to the cozy corners behind the toilet, Max would vanish like a magician's disappearing act. It was as if he believed that by hiding, he could outsmart the sounds themselves. Oh, how he would squeeze himself into the tiniest of crevices, hoping to blend in with his surroundings and find solace in the safety of his covert operations.

Now, Masha, the queen of cunning and undercover operations, had her own unique approach to dealing with the terrifying sounds. With a mix of feline grace and mischievous brilliance, she would slyly slink under cots and sofas like a ninja on a mission. Armed with stealthy paws and a desperate desire for refuge, Masha would play a game of hide-and-seek like no other. It was as if she had a secret radar for cozy hiding spots, carefully selecting her camouflage to outwit the noises that sent shivers down her spine. You could almost imagine her giggling to herself as she curled up beneath a blanket fort, thinking, "No noise can find me here!"

Moose, the magnificent mutt with ears as sharp as a dog whistle, Max, the trembling and hiding champion, and Masha, the master of undercover hide-and-seek.

These fluffy buddies, known for their mischievous adventures, found themselves facing distressing situations that simply wouldn't do! They couldn't bear troubling their loving owners any longer, so they put their furry heads together and concocted a brilliant plan. Masha, the Einstein of the pack, recalled a TV program about the Russia-Ukraine war, where dogs faced even greater difficulties than they did. Inspired by their canine comrades' resilience, she suggested reaching out to them for advice.

Now, Max, being a bit of a clueless pup, scratched his ear in confusion and asked, "But how on earth can we contact these brave dogs? Can we send them a carrier pigeon with a message tied to its tail?" Masha let out a playful bark and reminded him of their modern-day resources. With an interactive TV and access to social media, they could connect with dogs from all around the globe. "What's Instagram for, anyway?" she wagged her tail with mischievous glee.

And so, with their paws furiously typing away, the three amigos embarked on a quest to find dogs affected by loud noises, just like them. They soon made contact with their furry counterparts in the war-torn regions. To their astonishment, they discovered that these brave pups faced even more serious challenges and struggles.

Determined to make a difference, they decided to start a protest movement on social media. But being dogs with a flair for fun, they couldn't settle for a traditional protest. Oh no! They had a much more unique and hilarious idea up their furry sleeves—a "Bark-in"! Instead of solemnly marching with signs, they would organize a grand gathering of barking dogs from all around the world. Their goal was to create such a raucous symphony of woofs and yelps that it would drown out the scary noises and draw attention to their cause.

Word of the "Bark-in" spread like wildfire across social media platforms. Dogs of all shapes and sizes joined in, posting the most adorable pictures, sharing funny tales, and expressing their unwavering solidarity. The protest became an absolute sensation, with hashtags like #PawsAgainstPanic and #NoMoreNoise trending worldwide. Even the most serious humans couldn't resist the overwhelming cuteness and couldn't help but support the cause.

Their owners, utterly bemused by the shenanigans of their furry companions, couldn't help but chuckle at the sight of their dogs attending virtual meetings, typing furiously on tiny keyboards, and organizing the loudest gathering of barking madness the world had ever seen. But they also saw the genuine concern and determination in their pets' eyes, and they joined in the fun, sharing pictures of their beloved four-legged friends in silly protest attire.

The "Bark-in" made headlines everywhere, leaving people giggling uncontrollably as they scrolled through their social media feeds. News anchors struggled to maintain their composure as they reported on the global phenomenon of barking dogs demanding peace and quiet. Meanwhile, the world's most renowned noise-canceling headphone companies found themselves inundated with requests from both humans and canines alike, desperately seeking a moment of serene silence.

As the "Bark-in" continued, its impact spread far and wide. Communities around the world took notice and implemented measures to reduce noise pollution, ensuring a more peaceful environment for both humans and their furry friends. The dogs, having accomplished their mission with wagging tails, celebrated their victory with playdates, belly rubs, and an abundance of treats.

And so, these playful pups not only found a way to cope with distressing situations but also managed to bring laughter, unity, and positive change to the world. From that day forward, whenever the world became too noisy, people would fondly remember the legendary "Bark-in" and smile, grateful for the joy that dogs brought to their lives. Woof-tastic!

Why I Would Tell You Not to Buy a Holiday Home in Wayanad

Let me start with something that may sound strange coming from me. I live in Wayanad. I am building businesses here. I am involved in hospitality. I am working on holiday homes and nature based living. And still, if someone calls me and says, "Anup, I am thinking of buying a piece of land in Wayanad and building a homestay. What do you think?"   My first answer today is not, "Yes, go ahead." My first answer is, "Wait." Spend some time here. Understand Wayanad. Then decide. Because I have slowly realised that many people are not really investing in Wayanad. They are investing in a picture they have created in their minds about Wayanad. They see a beautiful piece of land. A mountain view. A stream running beside it. A lake somewhere nearby. Trees everywhere. Maybe the forest is just a few hundred metres away. The broker says, "Sir, this area is going to develop." The price still looks reasonable....

We Forgot Us

Srinivas was in his late fifties and, by every conventional definition, he was a successful man. He had spent most of his working life in one of the biggest corporate companies in Bengaluru. Good position, good salary, good house, good savings and a life that most people would look at and say, "What more do you want?" Saritha was working too. She was about six years younger than him, ambitious, independent and still very serious about her career. Their two children were doing well. One was working in the USA and the other was studying there.   From outside, the Srinivas family looked like one of those families who had got everything right.   Inside, something had slowly gone missing.   Their mornings were almost mechanical. They would wake up, go for their walk, come back, get ready and leave for work. Their offices were in different directions and the Bengaluru traffic made even a normal journey feel like a punishment. It was not that their offices were ver...

No Audience, Still Acting

I was having my tea the other morning, sitting on one of the small shacks near my construction site. A teenage girl walked past and waited at the bus stop across the road. It was clear something was special for her that day. Maybe her birthday, maybe an event in school. She kept adjusting her hair and her dress, and from the corner of her eye she checked if anyone was noticing her. That small moment pulled me into a long thought. Who are we when nobody is watching? I realised how often we live our life like someone is always looking at us. As if there is a stage, lights, and a crowd waiting to judge our next move. I lived that way too. Every smile measured, every word chosen, every silence planned. I knew how to act in rooms, how to fit in, how to be liked. What I did not see then was how temporary habits become permanent masks. Slowly the mask sticks so tight that one day you forget how your real face even looks. The mask was supposed to be something I take off when I feel safe. But a...
