The Heavenly Meeting

In the heavenly meeting room, where the clouds were comfier than the softest sofas, something extraordinary was happening. Three of the most significant divine figures, Rama, Christ, and Muhammad, were sitting around a celestial table, enjoying tea made from clouds. They were deeply concerned about the state of the world they had carefully shaped. People had gone astray, and it was really bothering the deities.

Lord Rama, a powerful deity, raised his voice and addressed the other divine beings. He said, "Dear fellow deities, we granted humans a limited amount of time on Earth for a very important purpose. This limited lifespan was meant to guide them in understanding the concepts of love and happiness. However, it appears that they have overlooked this essential message. Instead of seeking the true meaning of life, they seem to be more captivated by reality TV shows and celebrity gossip. The content they are engrossed in down there is so perplexing and bewildering that it leaves us in astonishment."

Lord Rama was expressing his concern that humans were not focusing on the important things in life, like love and happiness, and were instead distracted by shallow and trivial entertainment like reality TV and gossip about famous people.

Christ, who could do extraordinary things like walking on water and turning water into wine, let out a heavy sigh. He agreed with Lord Rama, saying, "I completely understand, Rama! I attempted to perform miracles to set a positive example for them. But instead of using the wine I provided for meaningful and sacred purposes, they turned it into an excuse for wild and unruly parties. We were trying to guide them in the right direction, but it seems they've chosen a completely different path. It's almost like attempting to teach a cat to play the harp - an impossible task that simply doesn't work."

Muhammad, with an eyebrow raised in the celestial meeting, expressed a combination of amusement and frustration. He said, "I entrusted them with the teachings of Islam, much like handing over the keys to a sacred place. However, instead of using this knowledge wisely, they're using it to engage in destructive conflicts in the name of religion. They go to war without truly comprehending the underlying reasons, and unbelievably, they label these wars as 'holy.' It's a chaotic situation, like giving a small child a dangerous tool like a chainsaw and hoping they will use it to create something amazing."

The deities exchanged worried glances, and Christ, in a heavenly way, placed his hand on his face in exasperation. He continued, "And don't even get me started on their obsession with gadgets and social media. They've taken 'Thou shalt not covet' to a whole new level! It's as if they're treating their glowing screens as more important than us! If I see one more 'selfie' with a heavenly filter, I might just turn their smartphones into stone tablets!"

Rama nodded in agreement, saying, "It's high time we stepped in to assist them. We should appear in their dreams and offer divine life guidance. Just imagine me teaching valuable life lessons to everyone in their dreams! The world would be more peaceful, and their bodies would thank us for it."

Christ had a clever idea, "Alternatively, we could launch a celestial reality show, 'Deities Gone Wild,' and use it to educate them on proper divine behavior. It's somewhat like 'BIG BOSS,' but with a touch of holiness and a lot less fake tan. I'm sure they'd be captivated by the millions."
Muhammad chimed in with an idea of his own, "How about a worldwide treasure hunt where golden tickets are hidden in holy books? That would certainly grab their attention! Discovering enlightenment would become their new 'Where's Waldo?' game, and it's an offer they wouldn't be able to resist."

Their celestial laughter filled the heavens, creating ripples of cosmic giggles among the stars. As they continued brainstorming, they held onto the hope that their divine intervention, whether through dreams or a reality TV show, would steer humanity back onto the right path, all the while infusing some much-needed humor and a dash of celestial wisdom.

Christ nodded with a worried expression on his face. "We've shown them how to solve their problems, leading by our own good examples, and provided clear guidelines in our holy books. Yet, they interpret these teachings in countless, often confusing ways! It's as if we gave them a recipe for a simple meal, and they somehow managed to turn it into a complete culinary disaster."

When we, the deities, traveled across the world in the past, we were welcomed in places built by Deities for one another's comfort and shelter. But in the present day, they are quarreling over these very buildings, each group claiming them in the name of their religion. It's a truly saddening situation.

Muhammad let out a deep sigh and said, "It's all about property and valuable natural resources, driven by their insatiable desire for wealth and power to dominate the world. Now, they are even fighting over land and oceans on Earth, and it seems they're gradually extending their conflicts to the Moon and Mars. I wonder when they'll develop the technology to reach our divine realm, just like in your mythology of Rama, where demons attempted to capture the heavens."

Both Rama and Christ found common ground in their concern, and Rama continued, "I'm not certain when humans will finally grasp these important truths. You see, after they pass away and come here for their assessment before their next life, we, the divine entities, don't judge them based on their religious beliefs. What truly matters is their actions, the things they've done in their lives. They need to understand that we, the deities, share a common supercomputer. What truly counts are the deeds and actions they've performed during their lifetime. It's important for humans to realize that the divine entities work together, sharing a common system for this evaluation.

After giving it a lot of thought, the deities reached an extraordinary decision: they wanted to reset the world, much like restarting a computer game. But they had an interesting twist in mind. One of them suggested, "What if we were to create three distinct continents, each devoted to a single faith, and restrict people's knowledge of traveling between them? This way, there would be no more confusion with countless sub-religions! It's somewhat like a gigantic cosmic version of the 'Where's Waldo?' game, but with entire continents."

However, someone else had a different idea. They proposed, "Or perhaps we should create more COVID or other natural disasters to make them understand that if they continue down this path, it could lead to the end of the world." This suggestion made all the deities laugh together. They responded, "We don't need to create any more COVID or disasters; there are already enough people with cruel intentions on Earth causing such problems.

As they neared the conclusion of their plan, one of the deities had a fantastic notion. They proposed, "To ensure their well-being, let's also keep them away from social media. It appears to be doing more harm than good! It's akin to handing them a powerful cosmic slingshot and watching as they point it at their own feet, causing self-inflicted damage."

Moreover, they decided, "Let's put an end to their ability to travel using metal birds from one place to another."

With a sly wink and a subtle nod, they put their grand divine plan into action. The deities held the hope that this somewhat amusing but highly significant reset would restore unity and sanity to the world they had crafted. However, they were not entirely certain whether it would work. So, they asked themselves, "Will it work? Should we explore more alternatives?"

They wished, just perhaps, that humanity would at long last understand the values of love, respect, and finding happiness in life's simplicity. Yet, if their plan didn't succeed, they even considered starting a cosmic sitcom to keep themselves entertained.

Why I Would Tell You Not to Buy a Holiday Home in Wayanad

Let me start with something that may sound strange coming from me. I live in Wayanad. I am building businesses here. I am involved in hospitality. I am working on holiday homes and nature based living. And still, if someone calls me and says, "Anup, I am thinking of buying a piece of land in Wayanad and building a homestay. What do you think?"   My first answer today is not, "Yes, go ahead." My first answer is, "Wait." Spend some time here. Understand Wayanad. Then decide. Because I have slowly realised that many people are not really investing in Wayanad. They are investing in a picture they have created in their minds about Wayanad. They see a beautiful piece of land. A mountain view. A stream running beside it. A lake somewhere nearby. Trees everywhere. Maybe the forest is just a few hundred metres away. The broker says, "Sir, this area is going to develop." The price still looks reasonable....

We Forgot Us

Srinivas was in his late fifties and, by every conventional definition, he was a successful man. He had spent most of his working life in one of the biggest corporate companies in Bengaluru. Good position, good salary, good house, good savings and a life that most people would look at and say, "What more do you want?" Saritha was working too. She was about six years younger than him, ambitious, independent and still very serious about her career. Their two children were doing well. One was working in the USA and the other was studying there.   From outside, the Srinivas family looked like one of those families who had got everything right.   Inside, something had slowly gone missing.   Their mornings were almost mechanical. They would wake up, go for their walk, come back, get ready and leave for work. Their offices were in different directions and the Bengaluru traffic made even a normal journey feel like a punishment. It was not that their offices were ver...

No Audience, Still Acting

I was having my tea the other morning, sitting on one of the small shacks near my construction site. A teenage girl walked past and waited at the bus stop across the road. It was clear something was special for her that day. Maybe her birthday, maybe an event in school. She kept adjusting her hair and her dress, and from the corner of her eye she checked if anyone was noticing her. That small moment pulled me into a long thought. Who are we when nobody is watching? I realised how often we live our life like someone is always looking at us. As if there is a stage, lights, and a crowd waiting to judge our next move. I lived that way too. Every smile measured, every word chosen, every silence planned. I knew how to act in rooms, how to fit in, how to be liked. What I did not see then was how temporary habits become permanent masks. Slowly the mask sticks so tight that one day you forget how your real face even looks. The mask was supposed to be something I take off when I feel safe. But a...
